As a mission-driven organization, we were delighted to be selected by the Andover Town Seal Committee to design a more accurate and inclusive town seal. The process involved delving into local, indigenous history and working with the Committee to create a process that was productive. During our Deep Dive, we learned the current town seal had undergone numerous redesigns, most of which had little respect for the history of the Pennacook nation. Taking the time to understand their culture and traditions, we were able to incorporate several symbols in our designs. Through a series of town meetings, committee reviews, surveys and revisions we came up with two options: a rendering of their old town hall and a tree that was representative of the natural terrain. Understanding collective history, engaging with key audiences and designing appropriate options is what we do best.
